Transforming Madrid-Barajas airport into a global hub with Aena
Modernising a Milan landmark with Kryalos SGR
Working alongside Kryalos SGR, we were commissioned to turn a protected historic office building into a modern and high-performing workplace.

Project overview
How do you expand a historic structure without compromising its integrity?
Kryalos SGR set out to redevelop Bassano Porrone 6, a historic office building in central Milan designed by the architect Ulisse Stacchini. The goal was to upgrade the building to contemporary office standards while preserving its heritage.
The ambitious centrepiece required adding a new floor above the existing third level. This called for complex structural work, close coordination with Milan's Heritage Authority and Landscape Commission and strict compliance with current regulations. The project also included a new courtyard façade, a fifth-floor terrace and flexible interior layouts, all aligned to high ESG standards.
Working within an existing historic structure raised the risk of unforeseen challenges, making cost control, structural coordination and regulatory compliance critical throughout the project. Additional interventions were required to accommodate new design loads and configurations, while ensuring compliance with project requirements.

Managing cost and complexity across the project life cycle
We provided full project management and cost management services across every phase of the project, from design through to construction.
Through our proactive approach, the project was delivered to schedule, despite the complexity of refurbishing a historic building and constructing an additional floor. High-risk structural works progressed with no delays to the critical path and we kept costs stable while managing changes requested during construction.
A lasting benefit for Milan
The project's impact will reach well beyond the building itself. A formerly transitional street is set to become an active urban space, improving the quality of the surrounding public realm, while preserving an important architectural landmark.
Its repositioning supported local economic growth and contributes to Milan's role as a business hub, culminating in one of the city's most significant prime office transactions in 2025.
The project has also achieved top-tier sustainability credentials, including LEED Platinum, WELL Gold and BREEAM In-Use Excellent.
