Project overview

What does it take to build one of the world's largest data centres?

Demand for data centre capacity in India is growing at a remarkable pace. Data Centre Holdings India (DCHI) is responding with a new hyperscale facility in Mumbai capable of supporting up to 120 megawatts, placing it among the world’s largest.

Delivered in phases over a five-year programme, the project strengthens Mumbai’s position as a key digital hub and supports the continued growth of cloud, enterprise and technology services across India.

Highlights

Project story

Scalable data centre project

The company’s objective was to develop two data centre core and shell buildings, one three megawatt data hall, plus ancillary and support buildings and services, as well as commercial office space for DCHI and its clients. To meet the power, air conditioning, administrative and security requirements for the data centre, the scheme also required a 220KV substation.

The data centre is the largest on a single plot ever to be built in Mumbai and will increase its capacity over a five-year programme.

Supporting the client

We supported the client for end-to-end project, cost management and contract administrative services. This included the stage gate approval process, risks cost reporting, robust contract administration, a quality control process and action trackers which have facilitated stakeholders to take considered decisions on time.

During a challenging time, operating amid the coronavirus pandemic, we were able to ensure that site activities continued. We also educated the teams on health and safety practices, which resulted in more than half a million safe worker hours.

Community inclusion

DCHI hired an environmental consultancy to ensure that local communities were not negatively impacted by the development, and the scheme has created jobs for skilled and unskilled workers, both in the construction phase and for the 30-year operation of the facility.
