Delivering a state of the art hospital with Health Infrastructure NSW

project overview
A state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility
Situated near the new Western Sydney International Airport, Bradfield City Centre is one of the biggest urban development projects ever undertaken in Australia. The First Building is the landmark development within the city.
The dedicated facility is a unique urban pavilion design of three buildings under one roof, including the first stage of the Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF) – a space for technology, research and industry to work together. There is also a space for exhibitions, talks and events.
Featuring a 1,000sqm manufacturing hall surrounded by glass, visitors will be able to view the action as prototypes and new technologies are tested on advanced machinery. Businesses of all sizes can access this advanced technology, industry expertise, training and networks.
Driving timeframes and targets
Bradfield Development Authority appointed us to provide delivery project management services and project assurance for the construction of the 3,000sqm mass timber frame building, targeting a 6 Star Green Star Buildings rating.
Our extensive experience with governments enabled us to work alongside the delivery team to drive all aspects of the project, including design, Green Star documentation submission, authority deliverables for Sydney Water and Endeavour Energy, planning modifications and coordination of fit-out works.
Working closely with the client, project manager and contractor, we maintained relationships and provided clear and effective strategies throughout the highly-detailed build.
Setting the benchmark for the new city
With sustainability at its core, the First Building sets the benchmark for the new city. Using green design in its construction and operation, key design features include:
- A rooftop viewing platform and 1,300sqm green roof featuring 14,000 biodiverse plants.
- A large roof structure for solar energy generation and water collection for reuse in landscape irrigation and the building’s grey water.
- Low embodied carbon materials, including timber and rammed earth.
Bradfield City Centre will create 20,000 new jobs, 10,000 new homes, and drive economic opportunities and innovation across the region.
It will be connected to Greater Sydney through the new Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport line and major road projects, and to the world through the 24/7 Western Sydney International Airport.
“The First Building and AMRF will be magnets for innovation and investment across New South Wales and Australia, aligning with the NSW Government’s commitment to prioritise rebuilding the state’s manufacturing capability.
This building is an exciting achievement for all project partners and is set to become a landmark of innovation and sustainable development in Western Sydney.”
