Delivering a state of the art hospital with Health Infrastructure NSW
Building a space for health and connection with Wadeye Pool Redevelopment
Providing a safe and healthy environment for the Wadeye community to swim, play and exercise.

Project overview
A vital community infrastructure
Wadeye is one of Australia’s largest and remote Aboriginal communities. The Wadeye Community Pool has been a vital piece of infrastructure for 20 years, providing essential social and health benefits to its users. Pool operations halted due to the facility reaching its end-of-life cycle, compromising the safety of the community.
A strategic priority for the West Daly Regional Council was to redevelop and maintain a high-quality facility and to achieve this, an extensive refurbishment of the pool and redevelopment of the associated buildings was needed.
Achieving maximum project value
We provided project management services for the design development and construction delivery of the facility. As a grant funded project, scope of works had to be reviewed and reduced to align with the budget. We proactively engaged with the client delivery team to confirm project requirements and critical success factors, undertaking a thorough procurement exercise for the appointment of the design team and principal contractor to obtain the maximum value for the project.
The outcome is a value-for-money facility with minimal maintenance and cost requirements once fully operational, as well as improved amenities that benefit the community.
Prioritising community engagement
Stakeholder integration was a critical success factor for the pool refurbishment delivery. We worked with the council, local artists and Aboriginal Elders, to reflect their stories of Country, culture and ambitions to deliver this core piece of infrastructure that brings the community together.
Where possible, local resources were prioritised and engaged. This was most prevalent during the construction phase where the community benefitted from the job opportunities coming out of this project. Having representation from as many local groups on site as possible made this feel like a community project.
A grand opening ceremony with a barbeque and swim was organised upon completion and residents involved in the development gave speeches and the local school performed cultural dances.
