Project overview

Increasing transport capacity and reducing carbon emissions

The new HS2 line will take intercity trains off the existing rail network, freeing up more space for commuter and freight services to relieve overcrowding and reduce lorries on roads. Through greater connectivity and shorter commute times, the line will also attract more investment to the Midlands, helping to level up the economy, and is expected to be completed between 2029 and 2033.

Moreover, HS2 will be the low carbon option for long-distance travel, emitting 17 times less carbon than the equivalent domestic flight and seven times less carbon than the equivalent car journey.

Project STORY

Supporting a successful rail programme

Working closely with HS2 Ltd, we have been involved in the programme since 2014, undertaking a variety of roles.

We rapidly mobilised a high performing team to support the successful award of the main works civils contractors (MWCC) stage 1 contracts on time and with no challenges. We also supported the successful procurement of the Stations Design Services Contracts for all stations and the Construction Partner Contracts for Euston and Old Oak Common stations in London. The team subsequently supported the negotiation and execution of the MWCC stage 2 contracts, a key requirement to achieve Notice to Proceed.

As Procurement Delivery Partner, we are providing resources to support procurement and commercial management across the programme.

Creating local jobs

As the largest infrastructure project in Europe, a workforce of nearly 30,000, including 1,200 apprenticeships, are supporting HS2’s vast construction programme. Thousands are also employed in offices and factories across the UK, supplying the materials, products and services needed.
