project overview
How do you balance preservation and innovation in a historic renovation project?
Hangar 1 at Moffett Federal Airfield has an eight-acre footprint. Rising nearly 200 feet high, the building required a complete structural restoration. The project set out to safely remove hazardous materials and install a facade that replicated the original design, as well as adding modern improvements like a new ventilation system and bird safety features.
project story
Delivering and schedule certainty
We provided comprehensive project controls and management services to support this project. In partnership with CBRE, our team managed all commercial aspects of the programme, from budget oversight and forecasting to risk mitigation and procurement. We approached the restoration with an owner's mindset to navigate the complex historic preservation.
Our disciplined approach helped mitigate commercial risks and manage complex change orders. We kept the project on track for its scheduled completion in December 2025.
Protecting the environment and supporting the community
The restoration of Hangar 1 supported the environment and community. By removing legacy toxic materials across the site, the project helped protect the San Francisco Bay ecosystem. It also preserves a cultural landmark that has been present in the Silicon Valley skyline since the 1930s.
This effort ensures that a historic structure will continue to benefit the community for decades to come.
