Project overview

Facilitating space for lifesaving work

Tackling one of the greatest biomedical challenges requires state-of-the-art scientific facilities and the university needed to update its space to conduct its vital healthcare research. The aim was to build an extension of the current university buildings, connecting the existing IGC West and IGC East buildings at the Western General Hospital campus.

The structure also needed to provide more specialist labs and office areas, as well as breakout and collaboration spaces.

The university set out to deliver an extension of 1,945 m², forming a 22.7-metre-tall 5-storey infill structure to link the ICG’s 4D Cellular Medicine building properly with the Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine facility.

Project story

Supporting seamless expansion

We were appointed to the project in 2022 and worked closely with the university, providing contract administration services and a turnkey design team. Throughout the project, we proactively supported the client's Project Manager by coordinating stakeholder management, establishing the action tracker at the project's outset, and providing ongoing support.

Our team enabled a smoother start and finish, adding significant value by setting up processes for the client Project Manager.

New and innovative space for cutting-edge research

The new building provides space for research groups to investigate genetic diseases and cancers, with specialist labs allowing detailed examination of cells, tissues and organisms, generating sophisticated data for advanced analysis.

These enhanced facilities enable vital and innovative research, benefiting society through advancements in cancer research.

Designed to foster collaboration and wellbeing, the space also includes ample meeting areas and a new bike storage to encourage cycling.
