Appointed as project managers on the delivery of the new Sydney Fish Market

We have been selected by Infrastructure NSW (INSW) to provide project management, superintendent and tenancy coordination services for the redevelopment of the new Sydney Fish Market at Blackwattle Bay in Sydney.

Nestled in a prime location on Sydney’s Harbour and located less than one kilometre from the western edge of the Sydney CBD, the new Sydney Fish Market is a world-class visitor amenity which will be Sydney’s next icon.

The new market will be built over the water in the bay and will accommodate wholesale fishmongers, specialty food retailers, restaurants, cafes and bars in a four-storey building which will sit beside 4,700sqm of public open space.

A key objective is to respond to the site in an authentic manner, respecting the building use and surrounds. This is achieved amongst other design ques through the buildings distinctive wave-shaped and scale-patterned roof paying homage to the fishing industry.

We have been appointed to project manage delivery of the development which has been split into two phases. The Early Works phase incorporates the demolition of a number of post-industrial structures, and Main Works phase sees the construction of approximately 30,000sqm of building, surrounding wharf structures and public spaces, providing direct access to the water.

The new Sydney Fish Market is part of the wider Blackwattle Bay redevelopment, a rare urban renewal project which will transform the area into a mixed-use waterfront destination for new housing, employment and harbour front community spaces.

Spanning approximately 8.4 hectares, the site is one of the largest opportunity precincts in Sydney. This new precinct will complement the established and evolving commercial, residential and entertainment industries that define Sydney.

The redevelopment is one of a number of projects being fast-tracked through the New South Wales Government’s Planning System Acceleration Program, designed to stimulate the economy following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anooj Oodit, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, said:

Combining new world-class facilities with stunning design, the new Sydney Fish Market is set to establish a new destination for the Blackwattle Bay area.

"We are pleased to be bringing our technical expertise and track record on complex major projects across the world to bear on this important development.

“At a time when investment is so critical to the economic recovery, the decision to accelerate the project is a mark of confidence in the construction sector and the long-term value that this project will unlock for Sydney let alone Australia.”
