PRESS RELEASE
Turner & Townsend, the global programme management company, today announces that its Making the Difference Fund has awarded more than £2 million to charitable partners around the world, since the fund was launched in 2023. This significant milestone comes as the fund announces its latest partnership with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)1 to support the global Children’s Emergency Fund response programme.
The Making the Difference Fund has built long-term partnerships with organisations tackling some of the world’s most pressing social and environmental challenges. Long-term partners include:
- Build Change, which helps vulnerable communities strengthen homes and infrastructure against earthquakes and extreme weather through resilient retrofitting, policy change and local capacity building
- Railway Children, which supports vulnerable children and young people at risk on the streets and within transport networks across Europe, Asia and Africa
- Barefoot College International (BCI), which empowers women in rural communities through education, developing new livelihoods and renewable energy installation and maintenance training programmes
Since partnering with Turner & Townsend, BCI has helped train 80 women as solar engineers and enabled over 11,000 women to participate in the ENRICH+ programme, which teaches the installation and maintenance of solar power technology, as well as digital literacy and micro-enterprise management skills.
“We established our Making the Difference Fund to create meaningful and sustained impact for communities across the world. Surpassing £2 million in support for our partners shows the scale of what businesses can achieve through strong partnerships and a shared commitment to positive change.
“We are proud to play a part in enabling the critical work of these organisations, and we look forward to continuing our work together, to expand opportunities and help communities thrive, despite facing some of the world’s greatest challenges.”
