Senior cost manager appointed youngest ever to CICES's Presidential chain

Alex Pearsall, who’s been a member of the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) since 2018, has been appointed Vice President of the CICES and will become President in 2025.

Congratulations to our Senior Cost Manager, Alex Pearsall for her appointment as Vice President of CICES.

Founded in 1969, CICES ensures quantity- and land surveyors within the civil engineering industry have the platform to contribute their expertise to society. At the time of establishment, CICES was the only group to exist with this purpose. With their ever-increasing membership, they have developed into an educational charity dedicated to promoting careers in this sector.

Alex joined CICES as a member in 2018 and, due to her shared passion and values, she immediately became an active participant of the organisation. As a previous member and chair of the 2040 Forum - now the Tomorrow’s Leaders Committee - she devised ideas to empower those who are projected to become future leaders within the industry. Elected to the Council of Management in 2020, she also took on the responsibility of mentoring individuals through their memberships with CICES. Her passion and dedication to the organisation demonstrated that she would excel as Vice President of the organisation.

Alex has made a four-year commitment to being part of the presidential chain and can expect to become President of the CICES in September 2025. In the meantime, Vice President, Alex will predominantly contribute to the organisation by playing a key role in the decision-making within CICES’s Council of Management and Select Committee.

Alex said:

I am delighted to be appointed as the Vice President of CICES. Since 2018, I have worked alongside the organisation to promote a more forward-thinking approach within the institution and the industry collectively.

“Quantity- and land surveyors make significant contributions to the construction industry and wider society, yet their efforts are often overlooked. We plan to change that. Alongside CICES, I hope to encourage more people to pursue a career in this industry and provide support to smaller companies.”

Simon Hamlyn, Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors, said:

“Having worked with Alex over the past year in her position on CICES Council of Management, as well as her involvement in the Tomorrow’s Leaders Committee and EDI Council, I’ve witnessed the impact of her progressive and positive approach on the work of the institution.”

Her attitude in embracing ideas and implementing new initiatives has demonstrated her leadership potential, as has her commitment to furthering opportunities for early careers professionals and levelling the playing field, particularly for women in our profession.

“I was therefore delighted that her peers elected Alex to CICES’s Presidential chain, on course to become our second ever woman president - after Alison Watson in 2024-2025 - and our youngest to date.”
