Appointment to revitalise Greenock Ocean Terminal at Clydeport

Peel Ports Group, one of the UK’s major port operators, has appointed us to provide project and cost management for the regeneration of its Greenock Ocean Terminal at Clydeport.

Following our recent appointment as a key supplier on Peel Ports Groups’ Engineering Consultancy, Project Management and Quantity Surveying Services framework, we are pleased to announce our role on the first of several project commissions to be awarded through the new framework.

As part of improvement works to the Greenock Ocean Terminal, our project and cost management teams across Scotland will support Clydeport Operations Limited with the replacement of two ship-to-store (STS) cranes, together with upgrading of associated infrastructure.

In addition, we will also be undertaking general servicing repairs and, more specifically, repairing quay walls, as well as upgrading electrical supplies during the next year. Our team will also work on the refurbishment of existing site welfare accommodation.

Peel Ports Group owns and operates six of the UK’s most important ports, including Port of Liverpool, Heysham Port, Manchester Ship Canal, Medway (Sheerness / Chatham), Clydeport (Greenock, Hunterston, Ardrossan, Glasgow, Inchgreen) and Great Yarmouth, together with a container terminal in Dublin.

Together, the six ports manage over 70 million tonnes of cargo every year, which is around 13 percent of the total UK major ports traffic. Over 35 shipping line services (from 26 shipping lines) travel through this network of ports every week.

The new appointment builds on our existing work, and 10-year partnership with Peel Ports Group, which comprises pre- and post-contract services in connection with a diverse project portfolio, including Liverpool2, a 100,000m³ Biomass Import, Storage and Out loading to Rail (BISTOR) facility and the redevelopment of Inchgreen Marine Park as well as Ardrossan Harbour.

We’ve also recently been appointed by Peel L&P as cost manager and project manager for a new, Build to Rent development at Yorkhill Quay alongside the River Clyde.

Stuart Sayer, Strategic lead for the North West, said:

"We’re delighted to have been selected as project and cost manager for the first task order off the back of Peel Ports Group’ Engineering Consultancy, Project Management and Quantity Surveying Services framework."

The demand for new infrastructure brings with it an opportunity for new or improved real estate and vice versa. We have a pool of talent in both sectors who will be working closely together to help deliver this project efficiently from start to finish.

"We have a long-standing relationship with the Peel group of companies, something which is beginning to grow not only within Scotland but UK-wide. We hope to support them on their journey to regenerating key docks and hubs and creating new trade gateways for many more years to come."

James McSporran, Clydeport Port Director, said:

"At Clydeport, we are dedicated to providing quality services and effective solutions to our customers. Our partnership with Turner & Townsend on this rejuvenation project highlights our commitment."

The expertise that Turner & Townsend bring will be vital for this project, and we look forward to its successful delivery.
