project overview

A landmark campus celebrating innovation, nature and community.

100 percent electric. Zero comparison. Focused on the needs of it’s people, Google’s new 1.1mn ft² campus utilizes healthy materials and biophilic design to improve indoor air quality, uphold design excellence, and help the company reach its moonshot sustainability goals.

Designed for Googlers

We delivered overall cost, budget and project management on the Bay View project, helping Google implement robust controls and reporting procedures. Working through the unique challenges of the pandemic, we supported Google with all financial facets of the project.

Dragonscale sustainability

Sustainability runs through the core of this project. Bay View has the largest geothermal installation in North America and it’s a water-positive campus, showing what’s possible with sustainable design.

It’s a development with some of the healthiest materials around, as well as canopy design and daylighting strategies. These allow electrical lights in desk areas to be turned off during daylight hours, while keeping excess heat out and reducing energy usage.

The solar covered canopy, known as ‘dragonscale’ has over 60,000 PV shingles, generating roughly 40 percent of the building’s annual energy requirements. The geothermal system eliminates the need for boilers and significantly reduces water consumption too. This means the building is able to reduce the amount of water required for cooling by 90 percent – equating to 5 million gallons of water every year.

Finally, Bay View is 100 percent electric and one of the largest all-electric buildings in the United States. Instrumental in Google’s commitment to replenish 120 percent of the water they consume by 2030, all non-potable water demands at Bay View are met using the recycled water generated on site.
