GE - interactive aviation centre
Delivering a rare and unique project
The unique atmospheric conditions in the Middle East enabled GE to create a regional engineering centre to showcase the engineering capability of the GE aviation team and allow customers to work with GE on their challenges.
Date started: 2014
Completion date: 2015
The MEC Aviation Centre in Dubai is an interactive engineering space, combined with offices, where diverse ideas and customers are encouraged, nurtured and connected to the wider innovation space across the country. This cross-business GE facility is focused on action and customer outcomes, in an engaging, open environment.
The facility is within the Dubai Airport Free Zone and is approximately 2000m² of fit out from category ‘B’ standard base build office. The fit out included innovative client meeting suite and client facing office for the GE aviation engineering, aviation sales and back office facilities.
The fit out also includes a showcase software lab providing a focal point for the centre.
We were awarded to provide complete project and cost management services including:
- Technical and administrative project management
- Budget controls
- Construction and EHS oversight
- Change management
- Submittal review and approval coordination,
- Manage project records and close-out documents and overall to comply with the client’s goals.
This project was very different to any other due to the vast extent of software and audio visual equipment required to meet the operational needs of the engineering and aviation team. We needed a consultancy we could trust to deliver such a complex fit out. This new technology centre will support our customers' operations using state-of-the-art data analytics, and we hope it will act as a blueprint for future GE software facilities in other parts of the world.Samer Aljabari Executive Director, GE Middle East Aviation Technology Centre
Making the difference
The key challenge to the project was to deliver something new to the world. GE is pushing the boundaries of both their capability and available technology to deliver a unique experience for their customers.
To assist in achieving this goal we undertook the designers procurement exercise tailored to locating and appointing a consultancy capable of delivering this innovation.
While adhering to the very tight time delivery timescales required.
