The World Expo 2025 brings together people and innovation from around the world to address global issues under the theme ‘designing future society for our lives’. Held in Osaka Kansai, Japan, the Expo is key for developing new technologies and products that enhance daily life, following a legacy of innovation showcased at previous expos.

Recognising the need for collective global knowledge and a unified national effort to ensure the expo’s success, the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition was established in January 2019 through a collaborative effort involving national and local governments and the business community.

This association would be responsible for the preparation and management of the main expo, aiming to contribute to the achievement of the United Nations’s SDGs and the growth of Japan’s industry and culture through its successful execution.

Global team with local expertise

We were appointed by the association to provide project management capabilities to support the delivery of five, type A pavilions for five countries.

This builds upon our global portfolio of work with World Expo 2025, with our teams supporting the delivery of the Singapore, Australia and the UK pavilions. Our collective experience across Expo 2025 pavilion projects demonstrates our in-depth understanding of the challenges of pavilion projects.

Our local, bilingual team based in Osaka worked as part of the Expo Association’s team to engage international pavilion stakeholders and drive project progress to meet programme requirements. This included monitoring project progress, highlighting risks and supporting the implementation of mitigations specific to Japan’s construction market, for example strict regulations around earthquake resilience.

Leveraging local knowledge of the supply chain and experience with trusted suppliers, our team’s understanding of Japanese product quality standards enabled us to connect stakeholders to key players in the local market to faciliate procurement.

Saving, empowering and connecting lives

With just five years to achieve the United Nations 2030 SDGs, the Expo is a crucial platform to help achieve these goals, along with the additional benefits of expansion of domestic and overseas investment and activation of regional economies and small enterprises resulting from expanded business opportunities, with an expected economic ripple effect of about JPY2tn.

As well as this, the Expo will support the development of Osaka’s world-class life sciences and biomedical capabilities through innovation, in line with the Expo’s theme and is also a chance to share Osaka’s history, culture and elevation of its global recognition.
