Connecting a region with a state-of-the-art transport programme

Metrolinx is upgrading its network to support the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. The goal is to build an integrated system that supports a high quality of life and a stronger local economy. By 2041, the plan is to have 49% of jobs within walking distance of frequent rapid transit stations and an additional 1,750 km of rail network. Over 150 projects are underway as part of Metrolinx capital investment programme.

Delivering costs controls and managing risk

We joined the project to put strong cost and commercial management procedures in place. This covered everything from pre-contract work to final delivery. Our team mobilised cost managers to ensure the capital infrastructure programme stayed on budget.

Additionally, our team supported the programme set up via a thorough change control process, as well as the development of the sponsor department. We also implemented a risk management approach to keep the capital programme on track.

Planning for sustainable growth

Passenger needs are at the heart of planning and operations. By integrating fares and services, the system not only keeps people moving but also will enable the region to thrive amid population growth, ensuring a smoother, more accessible future for all.

The plans for the network also anticipate and prepare for integrated mobility systems that use emerging transportation technologies and business models. This includes parking demand strategies to encourage carsharing and addressing the duration of a passengers' journey to optimise the use of roads and highways.
