Turner & Townsend’s Kanchan Rairikar Wins Hinkley Point C Mental Health Design Competition
Kanchan Rairikar, a Turner & Townsend Project Controls Engineer at Hinkley Point C, has been named one of the winners of a site-wide design competition held as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.
Her entry now features alongside the other winning designs on a permanent on-site sculpture titled The Elephant in the Room, aimed at promoting mental health awareness across the project.
The competition invited design submissions for an elephant sculpture inspired by mental health themes. Kanchan’s submission was selected for its originality, visual impact and the strength of its message.
“Designing this elephant was a deeply personal and meaningful experience,” said Kanchan Rairikar. “I wanted to create something that encourages people to talk openly about mental health and to feel seen and supported.”
The sculpture has been installed on-site at Hinkley Point C as a lasting symbol of the importance of mental wellbeing and open dialogue.
Robert Frost, Director of Energy & Natural Resources, UK at Turner & Townsend said:
Mental health is a critical part of our wellbeing, especially in high-performing teams.
"This initiative is a powerful symbol of our commitment of working with our clients to foster a culture where it’s safe to speak up and support one another."
Justine Goff, HPC Mental Health & Wellbeing Programme Lead, added:
“We’re incredibly proud of the creativity and thoughtfulness shown by everyone who took part in this initiative."
We want our Elephant in the Room to be a talking point, encouraging conversation around mental health.
The Elephant in the Room initiative is one of several ongoing efforts at Hinkley Point C to reduce stigma and promote mental wellbeing across its workforce.
