Turner & Townsend appointed to United Utilities’ operational audit and assurance framework

Turner & Townsend, the global professional services company, has been appointed to United Utilities’ operational audit and assurance framework (PRO004887 Services, framework, operational audit and assurance), further strengthening its longstanding partnership with United Utilities.

United Utilities serves millions of customers across North West England, supplying over 1.8bn litres of clean water each day and maintaining essential water and wastewater infrastructure across the region.

Under the framework, Turner & Townsend will provide specialist cost and commercial management services, working closely with United Utilities’ internal teams and supply chain partners. The focus is on delivering high-volume, operational expenditure (OPEX) audits that apply forensic cost assurance to ensure contract compliance and reduce commercial risk.

The scope includes forensic cost audit, commercial assurance, contract audit, supply chain management, dispute avoidance reporting, and broader commercial oversight across United Utilities’ extensive infrastructure. This includes 96 water treatment sites, 575 wastewater treatment sites and more than 1,400km of aqueducts, mains and pumping stations.

By integrating cost efficiency into everyday operations and strengthening oversight of supplier contracts, Turner & Townsend will help United Utilities deliver on its strategic priority to spend money wisely, driving greater value and resilience across its asset base.

James Corrigan, Managing Director, Infrastructure, UK at Turner & Townsend, said:

This appointment deepens our partnership with United Utilities, expanding the scope of our support across their operational landscape. It also reflects our shared commitment to driving smarter, more accountable infrastructure investment.

“By embedding commercial and supply chain assurance across such a large and important asset base, we’re helping United Utilities deliver smarter investment and long-term value, not just for the organisation, but for communities across the North West.”
