Turner & Townsend appointed to lead managed service commission on Net Zero Teesside Power and Northern Endurance Partnership

Turner & Townsend, the global professional services company, has been appointed to provide project controls and cost and commercial management capabilities for Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP).

NZT Power aims to become the world’s first gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage. It is enabled by NEP, the developer of the onshore and offshore infrastructure needed to transport CO2 from carbon capture projects across Teesside and the Humber, known collectively as the East Coast Cluster, to secure storage beneath the North Sea.

Turner & Townsend will deliver integrated support across project controls, performance, cost and commercial management and assurance, working with the project team to enhance delivery and reduce cost and schedule risks during construction.

The four-year commission strengthens the firm’s position in the energy and natural resources sector and highlights its ongoing role in advancing the UK’s industrial decarbonisation goals.

Once operational, NZT Power could produce up to 742MW of flexible, dispatchable low-carbon power, equivalent to the average annual electricity requirements of more than one million UK homes.

Up to 2m tonnes of CO2 per year will be captured at the plant and then transported to secure subsea storage sites beneath the North Sea via infrastructure provided by NEP.

The project forms part of a broader vision for industrial clusters in the UK and aims to serve as a model for similar facilities across the country.

Alan Sinclair, Managing Director, Energy and Natural Resources, UK at Turner & Townsend, said:

We’re proud to be trusted with the responsibility of delivering the highest standards of performance and assurance on one of the UK’s most ambitious decarbonisation projects.

"This appointment strengthens our portfolio in complex infrastructure delivery and supports the UK’s transition to net zero."
