Turner & Townsend appointed as Cost Management Service Provider for Future Prison Supply Programme
Turner & Townsend has been appointed by the Ministry of Justice as the Cost Management Service provider for the Future Prison Supply Service, supporting the UK Government’s strategic initiative to ensure enough prison places for those committed by the courts.
The appointment is a significant milestone for Turner & Townsend’s cost and commercial management business, reinforcing its role in delivering commercial management capabilities on a high-priority national infrastructure programme. The four-year contract will see Turner & Townsend provide cost assurance, commercial oversight and budgetary support across all RIBA stages for the MoJ’s Future Prison Estate Strategy, Acquisition and Pipeline (FPESAP) programme.
The MoJ has been at the forefront of modernising the UK’s prison estate through its New Prison Capacity Programme (NPCP), investing nearly £4bn to deliver 20,000 additional prison places. The MOJ’s New Prisons Programme (NPP) is one of several programmes which make up the 20,000 Prison Place Programmes and aims to deliver the new prison places across the country.
The FPESAP programme build upon this work, focusing on delivering the outcomes of the upcoming sentencing review, securing new land for development and ensuring a sustainable infrastructure pipeline to meet long-term demand.
Under this contract, Turner & Townsend will play a crucial role in ensuring value for money while supporting the Ministry of Justice (MoJ)’s commitment to high-quality benchmarking, efficiency-driven programme delivery and collaborative working with Estates Delivery Partners, HMPPS teams and contractors. The appointment endorses the company’s capabilities, relationships and commitment in supporting the MoJ’s prison upgrade programme for the past 15 years.
