EirGrid appoints Turner & Townsend to support delivery of major energy transformation programme in Ireland
Turner & Townsend has been appointed by EirGrid, Ireland’s state-owned electric power transmission operator, as a key delivery partner for a multi-billion euro investment programme aimed at transforming the national electricity grid, enhancing energy security and accelerating the transition to renewable energy sources including wind and solar.
Global professional services company, Turner & Townsend, will combine its strategic programme management with the deep technical expertise of engineering and professional services firm WSP to form an end-to-end project delivery capability.
Bringing digital tools and business systems, our combined team will deliver an integrated full-service capability that drives efficiencies and successful outcomes across the investment programme. The framework will run for five years with a three-year optional extension.
This appointment builds on Turner & Townsend’s longstanding relationship with EirGrid working on projects that deliver onshore and offshore grid development, system reinforcement and connections and electrical interconnections with neighbouring countries.
It reflects a shared commitment to building the critical infrastructure vital for powering communities, driving economic growth and future proofing Ireland’s electricity grid for the next generation.
Under the new framework, Turner & Townsend, with WSP, will continue to supplement EirGrid’s internal capabilities, bringing global best practices, tools and systems that accelerate delivery and ensure quality across the diverse programme.
Philip Matthews, Managing Director at Turner & Townsend, in Ireland, said:
“EirGrid is leading Ireland’s transition to a low carbon future and this is one of Europe’s most ambitious grid transformation programmes to date.”
Working together with WSP we will bring additional capability and expertise to support EirGrid in realising this complex programme, aligned with national and international energy strategies.
“We will deploy our integrated, multi-disciplinary approach in the planning and delivery of this major capital investment programme to create a lower-carbon transmission network nationwide. The result will be a more robust energy network to create a better and more sustainable future for everyone in Ireland.”
