More than showrooms

Steelcase was looking for an independent signature building to showcase its products and back office for its south India operation. The WorkLife Centre needed to showcase how innovative design, insight and wellness in the workplace can change the way people live and work.

A flexible design

With approximately 10,000 sq ft of space, the design of the WorkLife Centre celebrates teamwork and a flexible environment. Users and visitors of the WorkLife Centre will experience human-centred spaces designed for collaboration and individual focus-tasks, as well as high-performance shared spaces. This includes a high-performance meeting room for larger meetings, a space for informal discussions and workstations for the company’s non-resident employees.

Perched above the treetops and the bustling city life below is an expansive terrace. Equipped with a covered pantry as well as a range of outdoor settings for dining, meeting, and socialising, the terrace is the perfect location to gather groups of all sizes. The sunlight and surrounding greenery create a rejuvenating environment and a highly memorable hosting experience.

A coordinated approach

We were appointed to manage the design and costs and monitor the project throughout. Involved at an early stage, in conjunction with the design and build team and the client, we reviewed the suitable contractors and appointed the general contractor.

We successfully led Steelcase’s international design team and coordinated with the design and build team and client to agree on the design deliverables and information.

Laurent Delbos, Senior Project Manager, Steelcase commented:

Turner & Townsend’s Bangalore team has played a critical role in the success of our project, and the initial decision to contract them has been one of the best decisions we have taken for this project.

"Acting as a project and cost management consultant, they have supported and challenged the architect (budget, planning, vendor selection, construction quality and safety). They have monitored the construction activities, the costs safety progress. They were instrumental in pushing the contractor to get the project closeout done immediately upon project handover.

Their stakeholder management, robust and unbiased reporting and timely escalation helped us to complete the project on time and within the cost. They have acted as our Steelcase representative to lead the project and the result has been a great success.
