Client’s requirements

Development of Sasol’s Southern Africa asset portfolio includes both capital and operation and maintenance projects across two major plants at Secunda and Sasolburg, fuel depots, feeder pipelines and various upstream facilities at the Pande Taemane Gas Fields.

The company is currently implementing a number of environmental compliance programmes and projects related to air, water and waste management as well as those aimed at improving the social conditions of surrounding communities.

Operations and maintenance projects underway include repairs to cooling towers, the upgrade of a sewage treatment plant, and optimisation of a landfill site.

Our contribution

Building on a 17 year relationship, Sasol appointed Turner & Townsend to provide resources (quantity surveying, planning and cost) for the execution of key projects, such as the construction of Fine Ash Dam 6, the Volatile Organic Compounds Abatement Project and the Coal Tar Filtration West Project; provide cost management resources for their operations and maintenance programme; and planning services across a number of environmental projects.

Making the difference

We are currently providing cost management resources across the operations and maintenance portfolio in Secunda, applying a capital projects approach to the commercial management of these projects, providing greater accuracy and reporting on budgets and supporting improved management of contract instructions and compensation events.
