Client’s requirements

A new Australian embassy compound has been built in South-Central Jakarta. It is the largest diplomatic facility of the Australian government overseas.

It comprises a 26,000sqm office building, 32 staff residences for Australian officers, an executive residence for a senior embassy officer, recreation facilities, and extensive perimeter security works.

This exceptionally high-profile project is one of the biggest construction projects undertaken in Jakarta in the last five years.

Given the high-profile nature of the assignment, the client required a team of expatriate and local project managers to be deployed to the site, to ensure full supervision and management of every aspect of design finalisation, construction and post construction works. Turner & Townsend was appointed to provide project management and supervisory services.

Our contribution

We mobilised a team of fifteen project managers and site supervisors to manage the delivery of this project.

In our role as project manager, we managed all construction works, administered the building contract, managed interactions between contractors and the client team, and coordinated construction completion and post completion activities.

We also facilitated the relocation of staff and resident families into the embassy compound and continue to manage residual additional works requested by the client.

Making the difference

Our involvement over the last five years has been integral to the project’s success.

We demonstrated full understanding of Australian codes and construction standards, maintained a strong focus on safety, and adopted a collaborative approach to the resolution of complex design and construction issues. These capabilities resulted in the project being completed on time and significantly under budget.
