Close to Amsterdam Central Station and set in the heart of the historic city centre, our Netherlands’ team was commissioned to push Hiltons DoubleTree brand to its limits by improving the quality of its 557 guest rooms and its two food and beverage (F&B) spaces.

Delivering in a live environment

The client’s initial brief was to transform the hotel’s SkyLounge into the best rooftop bar in Amsterdam - with a target to increase the turnover of this already lucrative F&B outlet - and to modernise 54 sustainable guest rooms. Using our cost and commercial management and project management expertise, we challenged the design and delivery methods for the project to allow the hotel to remain in operation during the works.

Together with Hilton’s management, consultants and contractors, the team took on the challenge of transforming the hotel’s spectacular rooftop F&B location - LuminAir. The reimagined rooftop bar incorporates a unique lighting installation and opened spectacularly on 30 June 2023. While maintaining a tight programme and budget, we delivered the 54 transformed guest rooms using three unique designs in phases spanning from March to May 2023.

The client’s requirement to make the guest rooms future-proof was met through the delivery of electrical works that allow for the eventual installation of smart home devices with minimum disruption.

Success measured

A measure of the initial success of the project was evidenced by an increased number of bookings for the refurbished rooms.

The brief was also expanded to include modernising corridors and lift lobbies, adjusting the designs to better accommodate a high-traffic area, while retaining existing mechanical, electrical and plumbing installations.

The project continues our local team’s 10-year relationship with Hilton and has benefitted from our significant experience in delivering fit outs for international and local clients in Amsterdam in live environments, while integrating our global expertise and knowledge.
