Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Investment in infrastructure and innovation are crucial in driving economic growth and development. With over half the world’s population now living in cities, mass transport and renewable energy are becoming ever more important. Historically, the construction industry has been behind others in embracing new technology and adopting methods to improve. Being a part of delivering the world’s largest construction projects, we play a leading role in driving efficiency and exploration of technological innovation.

Innovating from design to operations

Our work with the New York Power Authority (NYPA) set the standards for asset management, the control of spending and investment, and achievement of sustainability objectives. We worked with NYPA to create a better view of installed assets, more proactive maintenance strategies and effective management of asset availability. As well as shaping these key processes, we helped to drive cultural change with tools that enabled everyone to think holistically and strategically about NYPA’s whole asset portfolio.

At Abu Dhabi, Lima and Singapore international airports, we are supporting clients with cutting-edge building information modelling (BIM). Our strategies draw multiple data sets together to enable better decision-making from the initial design of a project through to the assets being fully operational.

Building infrastructure for the future

Lucy Howard, a Director in our UK Infrastructure team, had a key role in the development of the Institution of Civil Engineers Project 13 as chair of the Future Leaders Panel. Working with the UK government and industry initiatives, Project 13 promotes collaboration and early engagement between those who invest in, own, commission and deliver our infrastructure. Emphasis is placed on delivering a full set of outcomes for the client instead of focusing on time and budget efficiencies alone.

Whether it’s working with our clients to maximise social and environmental outcomes or driving collaboration and exploration of innovative technologies and project delivery, we play a leading role in some of the world’s most ground-breaking initiatives. Together with our industry partners, we can ensure that infrastructure acts as a springboard for sustainable development in the long term.
