Louise Curran
I work as an integrated team member both in client teams and Turner & Townsend teams, supporting the group to collectively work towards a shared objective and draw on the strengths of the different members.

I started on the Turner & Townsend graduate programme in 2013 as a non-cognate graduate. I joined the Infrastructure Cost Management team as an assistant cost manager and worked across projects in the aviation, utilities and rail sector over two years while simultaneously studying a part-time MSc Quantity Surveying as part of my learning and development plan with Turner & Townsend.

I have since worked in our Latin American business based out of Sao Paulo in both the infrastructure and real estate sectors and am currently a cost consultant located in our Toronto office.

Q. Which project are you most proud of being involved in at Turner & Townsend?

A. Heathrow Terminal 2 was my first project with Turner & Townsend and one from which I gained a huge amount of experience and was able to see the projects I worked on come to fruition with the go-live date in 2014. It is, to this day, my favourite airport terminal building.

Q. What's your typical day?

A. My day involves working independently on particular outputs, such as aspects of contract administration, procurement, project reporting and other aspects of cost and commercial management. I also support more junior team members in their development on the job through guiding them through their work and advising them on the way forward when it is needed.

Q. What is the emerging trend in your industry specialism and how are you responding to this?

A. One trend is the importance of data for cost management in construction. Our business has an internal team focusing on the use of data and technology to support delivery of successful outcomes for our clients. One thing I aim to do is to stay on top of any guidance and best practice coming from our internal experts in this area, as well as guidance from RICS.
