The harder you work for something, the greater you’ll feel when you achieve it.Lisa Chong
Upon graduating from Salford University, I embarked my journey in the construction industry with a local construction company. During my time at Turner & Townsend I've handled a wide spectrum of projects and contracts such as commercial, warehouse, aerospace, education, data centre's and infrastructure projects.
I started with Turner & Townsend in October 2005 and since I've progressed from a cost manager role to developing my core strength in contract administration and now handling a team of 31 consultants.
Q. What do you most enjoy most about working at Turner & Townsend?
A. People – I enjoy and feel comfortable working with my colleagues, they are always motivated and we support each other. There is no shortfall of any guidance and support from the senior management who are very personable and great to work with.
Project/client – The opportunity to work with prestigious clients, which I never expected to be partnering and supporting them of their projects, is a great experience. The exposure to global clients and challenging projects has really improved and developed my skills in this industry.
Q. Describe your typical day
A. A typical day for me starts with leaving home with my family early morning to send my child to school. After which, I will have breakfast with my husband and have my usual coffee to perk me up for the next 8 to 10 hours! My work effectively starts around 7:45am with responding to emails, attending scheduled meetings/conference calls and putting in place my action list for the day. There will also be pockets of quick discussion to address any impromptu challenges that arises in their projects.
Q. Which project are you most proud of being involved in at Turner & Townsend?
A. It is not easy to select a particular project that I am proud of being involved in as I have had plenty of opportunities to work with various prestigious clients.
In my opinion, what makes me proud is the journey I've had with the company. It started with only 3 employees (including myself) contributing to the Turner & Townsend Singapore business. Today, Turner & Townsend have grown to more than 80 employees in Singapore, with which we have strengthened our market position in the region and have become well recognised in the market.
