Supporting the construction of a new biology centre for the University of Vienna
Turner & Townsend has been commissioned to deliver monitoring and consulting services for a new biology centre at the University of Vienna in Austria.
The new building of the University’s Faculty of Life & Science will include facilities for research and teaching as well as a laboratory with a total of approx. 39,600 m² GFA (gross floor area). The completion will be in 2021.
One of the key challenges to this project is to accommodate modern laboratory and research equipment while at the same time ensuring a certain flexibility in the building structure so that future space requirements will be able to be accommodated.
Turner & Townsend is supporting the BIG (Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft) and the University of Vienna with monitoring services to ensure the overarching control of the project costs, schedule and quality. Furthermore, Turner & Townsend is monitoring that the project is compliant with legal and project-specific procedures and also supports clients with local approvals.
Iris Fischer-Plachenka, Turner & Townsend Associate Director and Project Lead comments: “We are delighted to have been commissioned with the monitoring of the new biology centre for the University of Vienna.”
It is a unique project, which requires specialised knowledge in the construction of laboratories as well as educational facilities. The structure of the building will support effective research and teaching operations."
