Second year win for empowering women at South Africa’s Standard Bank’s Top Women Awards
For a second year running, we have been acknowledged for our achievements in empowering women in the construction industry, winning the Top Gender Empowered Organisation, Skills Development Award at the Standard Bank Top Women Awards.
Held virtually on Friday 2 October, these annual awards are well-known for celebrating South Africa’s foremost champions of empowerment and reward outstanding leadership, inspiration and innovation in the public and private sectors, including major corporates and small, medium and micro-enterprises.
Stephen McCartney, Managing Director, Africa said:
Winning this award for the second year is an important signifier of our organisation’s continued efforts to drive gender empowerment within our own organisation and within our industry by supporting small and upcoming black-owned businesses across South Africa.
“I’m delighted our skills development programme, in particular, has been recognised by these awards. Launched in 2010, it provides skills transfer to black-owned, small and medium sized businesses operating in the construction industry allowing them to compete and sustain their business and become part of the mainstream economy. Currently, 54 percent of the suppliers through our programme are black female-owned businesses.”
