Our winning streak at the RICS regional awards continued with a hat trick of success at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Grand Final ceremony this month. The Birmingham Gateway & Grand Central project and Emergency Care Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead took home the Regeneration and Infrastructure accolades respectively. The ceremony in London was made even more special when Birmingham Gateway & Grand Central was also rewarded with the overall Project of the Year award.
Birmingham’s former New Street station’s £1bn transformation has created a world-class, attractive train station which caters for more than double the numbers of passengers it was initially designed to take. RICS judges praised the team for delivering such a vast and complex project while the station remained open, and handling 180,000 passengers daily.
The Emergency Care Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hospital at Gateshead was described by RICS judges as an outstanding project, not only in terms of the architecture and facilities provided, but also in how it brings together all the medical facilities required to treat patients during an emergency into a single bright modern new building.
These wins cap what has been great success across the UK at the RICS regional awards. Shortlisted projects included Borders Railway (Scotland), Aker Solutions HQ (Scotland), The Diamond Sheffield (Yorkshire and Humber), The Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine Queen’s University Belfast (Northern Ireland), and Leeds City College print Works (Yorkshire and Humber).
Jon White, UK and Ireland Managing Director at Turner & Townsend said: “We are delighted to see so many of our client’s projects being recognised by the RICS and winning awards across the UK and across sectors. The awards are reflective of the hard work and dedication displayed by our teams and their commitment to making the difference to our clients.”
