Delivering Adelaide Aquatic Centre for South Australia’s Department for Infrastructure and Transport

The new Adelaide Aquatic Centre will be a world-class, sustainable and inclusive social hub in the heart of the Adelaide Park Lands, providing state-of-the-art aquatic and leisure facilities for the community.

We are providing project management and contract administration services to the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) to deliver the new AU$135m landmark Adelaide Aquatic Centre Development. The project is located in Adelaide City’s northern Park Lands at Pardipardinyilla/Denise Norton Park (Park 2).

With the existing facility reaching the end of its practical life, the Government of South Australia has prioritised this redevelopment to create a centre that will define sports engagement and participation for the city for generations to come.

The all-electric facility is carefully positioned in the Park Lands setting to respect the National Heritage Values. Designed by JPE Design Studio and Warren Mahoney Architects, the new Adelaide Aquatic Centre will be a contemporary, multi-purpose, high-quality space that uses warm and natural tones to reflect the local landscape.

Construction is expected to reach practical completion by the end of 2025, with the facility open to the public from the summer of 2025/2026.

Once completed, the aquatic centre will have a health and wellbeing focus for people of all abilities, cultures and ages. Communities will benefit from a range of spaces for rehabilitation, leisure water play, lap swimming, learn-to-swim, and entry-level diving, as well as a café, fitness facilities and new landscaped surrounds to enjoy. More than 1000 square metres of land will be returned to Park Lands once the new centre is built.

Our Australian business has previously delivered capital programmes and major projects in the education sector for DIT across South Australia, including Botanic High School and the new Whyalla Secondary College.

Rebecca Lawson-Cooke, Director, Project Management, South Australia, said:

The Adelaide Aquatic Centre project continues our partnership with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport with a world-class, sustainable and accessible facility that connects people and places, as well as supports lifelong movement, play and health.
