Cost management for Europe's tallest observation wheel
We have been appointed by the World Wheel Company to provide cost management services for Giants on the Quayside, set to be one of Europe’s best waterfront leisure experiences including the country’s tallest observation wheel.
Covering a footprint of 33,000 m² the Giants on the Quayside development will be a new destination for food and drink, leisure and sports activities in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. At the centre of the development will be the 140 metre tall Giant Observation Wheel dubbed the ‘Whey Aye’, which will be the tallest wheel in Europe, standing five metres taller than the London Eye.
The development is set to regenerate a derelict brownfield site and will create over 800 new full and part-time jobs delivering £108 million in new disposable income over a 20-year period.
Phil Lynagh, Chief Executive Officer of World Wheel Company said:
“We are delighted to have Turner & Townsend as part of the professional team helping to deliver the Giants on the Quayside development.
It is testament to World Wheel Company’s philosophy of not only creating and developing unique and smart concepts, but also working alongside the best in the business to bring that creativity to life.
Paul Humble, Project Director in Newcastle said:
Having provided feasibility cost advice to the World Wheel Company on this project, we are thrilled that our appointment has been extended to cover the full project life-cycle.
“There is a lot of excitement across the region about Newcastle’s wheel both as a tourism and leisure destination, but also the regeneration that is taking place on the Quayside.”
