SABIC is a global leader in diversified chemicals headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Its work includes manufacturing chemicals, commodity and high-performance plastics, agri-nutrients and metals on a global scale.

To remain competitive in a challenging market, SABIC’s strategic objective in the UK is to reduce the fixed and operating costs of its plants on the Wilton and North Tees sites in Teesside.

SABIC UK Petrochemicals Limited (SUKPL), the UK operating company, appointed us in 2010 as strategic partners to provide cost and commercial management services at all levels of the organisation from delivery teams to site leadership. Working collaboratively with SUKPL and its delivery partners, we develop and control budgets, manage CAPEX and OPEX spend, and successfully deliver projects that maintain and enhance production. A key part of our role is to deliver improvements in managing spend and value for money. We have implemented a KPI scheme, delivered risk services and provided training in contract management. By introducing a number of cost, time and reporting efficiencies, SUKPL has been able to significantly reduce overspend.

A spokesperson for SABIC said: “Turner & Townsend has significantly helped build organisational capability, bringing experience and technical expertise that has introduced efficiencies and delivered significant savings.”
