Nikki Ward

Associate Director, Marketing and Business Development

Dalian Wanda Group (Wanda) today announced our appointment as project manager for their AUD1 billion redevelopment of the iconic Gold Fields House site at Sydney’s Circular Quay.

The mixed-use project will be Wanda’s first capital city development in Australia, reinforcing the company’s position as a leading international property developer while setting a new benchmark for luxury in Sydney.

The development is part of Wanda’s global strategy of acquiring key sites in key international cities in which to build their luxury residential and hotel offering. Sydney’s most iconic development will join Beverly Hills, Chicago and London as part of Wanda’s global expansion.

Located at 1 Alfred Street, the project is an exciting mix-use development that will rejuvenate one of Sydney’s signature precincts, Circular Quay, creating a vibrant destination address for locals and visitors alike.

Wanda’s proposal will deliver a 57-storey premium residential tower and a 28-storey Wanda Vista hotel, Wanda’s trademark luxury hotel brand, as well as the revitalisation of public space including new laneways, restaurants, retail and public art.

The announcement of Turner & Townsend Thinc as project manager is an important milestone for the project as it continues to push ahead with the planning and design process.

Sales and Marketing Director, Madelaine Lundgren, said the company was delighted to have us on board.

“Turner & Townsend Thinc will play an important role supporting Wanda’s design, cost control, construction and sales and marketing team to successfully deliver the project.”

“This is a landmark project for Wanda globally,” said John Wei, Managing Director Wanda One Sydney.

“We are committed to delivering an outstanding development that will be a testament to the iconic Circular Quay site, Sydney’s gateway, and we are excited to partner with Turner & Townsend Thinc to achieve this.

“We have a proven track record in creating luxury residential property alongside world-class hotels and retail outlets, and we are very excited to be bringing this to Sydney.

“Our vision for Circular Quay will deliver improved amenity, including new public art and public space, laneways, restaurants and the very best contemporary architecture.”

The development is set to contribute thousands of jobs both during construction and beyond in a major boost for the local economy.

Anooj Oodit, Managing Director, said: “it is a privilege to be appointed to work with Wanda.

”We are very excited by the opportunity to be involved in such an important project for Wanda.

Wanda One Sydney is set to revitalise a prime city block in one of the city’s most visited precincts. We look forward to bringing our global real estate expertise to this project to ensure the success of this iconic development, which captures the finest views in Australia overlooking Sydney Harbour, the world famous Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

"A highly experienced project management team has been deployed to work closely with Wanda and its key stakeholders to deliver best practice principles in the management of this significant project.”

Wanda acquired Gold Fields House in late 2014. In December 2015 Wanda won approval from the Central Sydney Planning Committee for its Stage One Development Application, which covered the residential tower and luxury hotel building envelope.

Stage Two is due to be submitted later this year including the design of the hotel, which was subject to an international design competition.

Demolition of the existing buildings and site clearance is set to commence from early 2017. Construction is due to start in March 2018.
