£330m world class event centre for Aberdeen completed
The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA) – a new 105,000sqm event space - has officially opened in Scotland.
Capable of hosting world class exhibitions and concerts, the main 9,000sqm events centre has a 15,000 arena capacity and conference capacity of over 5,000 across the various conference spaces. The provision of a subterranean multi-purpose space – the size of 64 Olympic swimming pools – allows use both as a car park and can be fitted out as an exhibition hall when required.
Andy Outram, Scotland Real Estate Lead Director said:
We are extremely proud to have project managed this phenomenal facility for Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland. The success of TECA follows on from our involvement in every phase of the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow, including most recently the Hydro, and proves that our business has unrivalled project management capability of venue developments in Scotland.
Upon completion our client and Henry Boot Development’s (HBD) MD, Ed Hutchinson said:
“Everyone at HBD is immensely proud to have been involved with this iconic build alongside Aberdeen City Council, main contractor Robertson and the Turner & Townsend project management team. The doors of this truly world class event, hospitality and exhibition space opened to the public this month and we couldn’t have delivered this monumental project on time and on budget without the support of all teams involved.”
As part of Aberdeen City Council’s plan to grow the local economy, the £333m facility is expected to contribute an additional 4.5 million visitors, £113m of visitor spend and £63m net gross value added to the Scottish economy. It will also result in the creation of 352 full-time-equivalent permanent positions by year ten of operations. Find out more about our work on the TECA project.
