The Construction (Design and
Management) Regulations 2007
The fundamental message of the CDM Regulations is clear:
Health and Safety is everyone’s business and must
be planned-in from the beginning and taken into account
throughout a project.
Turner & Townsend has fulfilled the role of CDM Co-ordinator
(previously Planning Supervisor under the CDM Regulations
1994) and/or Principal Contractor on numerous projects
for clients such as Orange plc, Royal Mail, Siemens Microelectronics,
the National Railway Museum, Trafford Park Development
Corporation, Malmaison and Ibis Hotel Groups, North East
Bus and the Scottish Exhibition Centre (to name but a few).
In addition, we have been consulted by numerous clients
with respect to CDM on many projects, particularly with
regard to the responsibilities placed on various Duty Holders.
Sectors covered include Education, Health, Government,
Rail, Urban Regeneration, Leisure, Museums & Heritage,
Law & Order, Telecommunications, Commercial and Industrial.
Our staff are fully conversant in all aspects of CDM and
have undertaken the role of CDM Co-ordinator on projects
of varying complexity and value (£100k to £500m),
from inception through to commissioning and subsequent
handover.
As CDM Co-ordinator, Turner & Townsend closely follow
the requirements of the Approved Code of Practice including
the following tasks:-
- Notify the Health and Safety Executive of the project.
- Advise
the client on their responsibilities under CDM.
- On competency
of Designers.
- On competency of Principal Contractors.
- On adequacy of
the Principal Contractor’s Construction Health
and Safety Plan prior to commencement on site.
- Promote, as far
as reasonably practicable, co-operation between
Designers.
- Monitor, as far as reasonably practicable,
the design process and the
management of risks associated with the design.
- Provide client and Project Manager with monthly progress
report.
- Prepare Pre-Construction Information packs.
- Attend design co-ordination meetings as appropriate.
- Review relevant design information with respect to
Health and Safety.
Ensure, as far as reasonably
practicable, the Project Team prepares the relevant
information for inclusion in
the Health and Safety File and arrange the overall collation
of this information. <<
