The Presentation of the Queen's Award for Enterprise 2003
by HRH The Duke of York, Low Hall, Leeds, Tuesday 28th July 2003

A Message from the Chairman

Twenty-two years ago, I flew out with my wife and family to Johannesburg to begin a new life in South Africa, and to establish the first Turner & Townsend office outside the UK.

The Queen's Award for Enterprise is the culmination of a process of international expansion which began with that first office. But it is during the past four years that Turner & Townsend International has earned the particular honour of this award, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those members of the Turner & Townsend team who have worked so hard to make this possible.

Like me, many have moved their families far from home and made a commitment to build their lives, and our business, in countries where living and working has been difficult and sometimes dangerous. Today's presentation is a vindication of all their efforts, but everybody at Turner & Townsend should take great pride in this remarkable achievement. And so too should all the many clients who have grown with us and continued to trust us. I would like to thank them for all the support they have given Turner & Townsend in the past, and look forward to even greater success together in the future.
