Graduate Development
In order to attract the best people,
we know we have to offer the best incentives,
and one of the biggest incentives we believe
we can offer our graduates is opportunity.
We’ll give you the opportunity to
work with world class clients on cutting
edge projects; to work all over the world;
to build a successful career with a company
that will offer the highest levels of
support and reward at every stage. And
we have created a Graduate Development
Programme that will give you the combination
of formal training and practical experience
you need to develop all the skills required
to make the most of the opportunities
you’ll find at Turner & Townsend.
Training
Our Graduate Development Programme
includes a number of core modules for
both group and individual training, but
your training plan will be tailored to
your own needs and career goals. We have
excellent links to a wide range of universities,
colleges and professional bodies, including
RICS and the Institute of Management Consultants,
and we will give you our full support
to enhance your skills development and
fast track you through your professional
qualifications. Turner & Townsend
has an outstanding record in APC success
rates. In 2006 our pass rate was 92%,measured
against a UK average of approximately
65%.
Skills Development
We have created two matrices
that we can use to identify the skills
you need to succeed with us, and help
you develop them. The Behavioural Competency
Matrix focuses on ‘soft’ skills
such as communication, learning, analytical
thinking, drive and decisiveness; The
Technical Assessment Matrix tracks your
knowledge and experience in key technical
areas of your profession. Both matrices
are used in your annual appraisal process,
or more frequently if required, to identify
any areas where training and development
could help you improve your skills.
Coaching
Learning in the ‘live’
working environment is the cornerstone
of your career, and our coaching structure
is designed to be one of the most important
aspects of your graduate development.
At the outset of every project you and
your Commission Manager discuss your expectations
and responsibilities and agree a clear
set of tasks and objectives. This is closely
linked to our appraisal and feedback system,
so we can monitor your performance and
encourage continuous improvement.
Mentoring
Turner & Townsend has introduced
formal mentoring as a key strategy in
developing senior managers within the
company. For many graduates, this will
initially take the form of a ‘Buddy’
scheme with a more experienced graduate
guiding you through your first months,
followed by a more structured programme
that allows you to discuss your development,
career or personal life with a trusted
mentor, outside the appraisal process.
Personal Development
Plans & Appraisals
We will help you create and maintain
a detailed Personal Development Plan that
maps out your career objectives, sets
out the criteria for advancement within
the company, and monitors your progress.
This forms an important element in your
appraisal process, but we also encourage
project by project feedback and regular
performance reviews to make sure your
development needs are proactively identified
and properly met.
Work Experience,
Secondment & Rotation
Our better than average record
of retaining the graduates who join us
owes a lot to our policy of encouraging
variety and responsibility in our graduate’s
work experience. We’ll give you
the opportunity to work on a wide variety
of different projects, large and small,
in different sectors and different places.
We’ll also give you opportunities
to contribute to business development,
and to gain experience outside your core
discipline.
Career Progression
We give our graduates all the
support, training incentives, promotions
and rewards to help them realise their
full potential, and to rise as far as
they can as fast as possible.
We want you to be the best, because you
are what makes us the best.
