Museums, galleries and cultural venues are some of the most frequented facilities around the world. Although many venues are new modern structures, many are historic landmarks or heritage buildings that require special consideration when undergoing renovation. In both cases the ultimate aim is to create state-of-the art facilities, but renovation projects involve an added challenge of the facility remaining operational to protect revenue and brand during the remodelling works.

Market context

Project stakeholders for culture and leisure venues include government departments, trustees, donors, institutional funders, local authorities and the visiting public, as well as curators, in-house client project teams, design teams and finance departments within the venues themselves.

The various stakeholders each have different interests and concerns that need to be addressed in the context of the overall scope, project budget, schedule, and through detailed understanding of the likely return on investment.

New developments and renovation projects increasingly aim to exploit commercial opportunities for merchandising, food and beverages, retail, concessions, sponsorship and event rentals, as well as meeting expectations for educational uses.
