As Managing Director of Advisory at Turner & Townsend, I’m responsible for approximately 400 professionals working across contract services, consulting, technology, operational excellence, health, safety and quality. My role is to drive success by enabling our clients to protect and optimise the potential of their projects, assets and business performance.

I’m a Chartered Safety Practitioner by background starting out on audit and compliance consultancy in the private sector. Then I moved onto various major transformation and business improvement programmes with organisations such as DWP, BBC and Southampton City Council. In addition to my technical qualifications, I also have an MBA and the latter part of my career has been focused more on business management and growth through leading multi-disciplinary teams.

Q. What attracted you to join Turner & Townsend?

A. Looking back, I was attracted by the ambition of the leadership and the values of the organisation which I believed were aligned to mine. I always remember the UK MD at the time telling me during an interview that he wanted people to join Turner & Townsend for a career rather than a role. Reflecting on the past three years, we really do live and breathe those sentiments as an organisation.

Q. Which project are you most proud of being involved in at Turner & Townsend?

A. At Turner & Townsend we want to make a difference to clients, their projects, programmes and operations, and the MBNL project is a great example of how we have been able to achieve that. We were commissioned to support the health, safety, quality and environmental management across UK wide deployment of mobile telecoms infrastructure (covering 23,000 sites) for Mobile Broadband Network Limited (MBNL) - a joint venture between leading telecoms providers Three and EE. I’m proud of the way we were able to pull on the collective strength of the business to provide advisory services which has allowed MBNL to drive improvements.

Q. Detail any specialist skills or experience for which you are known

A. I’m a Chartered Safety Professional and Registered Access Consultant and have experience in major transformation and business improvement programmes with organisations such as DWP, BBC, Southampton City Council, MBNL and TFL. In additional to my technical qualifications, I also have an MBA and the latter part of my career has been focused more on business management and growth.

Q. Do you hold any Industry positions?

A. I’m a Trustee for The British Safety Council, one of the world’s leading health and safety organisations. The British Safety Council believes no one should be injured or made ill through their work and raises awareness and improves standards. Although the Trustee role is primarily about governance, it also gives me an opportunity to get involved in the key areas affecting our industry.
