Turner & Townsend Netherlands wins award for volunteer work
Our Dutch team is very proud to have received the JINC award for ‘company of the year’ for their volunteer work with school children from all over Amsterdam.
JINC is a charity in the Netherlands that believes everyone should have equal opportunities when entering the labour market. They inspire children and young people from socio-economically disadvantaged neighbourhoods to develop life and career aspirations through gaining a better understanding of the world of work.
During the annual award show yesterday at the DeLaMar theatre in Amsterdam. Astrid Boumans, Director Operations, received the award on behalf of Turner & Townsend. Being asked about the reason why Turner & Townsend participates in JINC, Astrid replied:
"We’re an international office with employees with different nationalities. This resonates with the school children as they themselves often come from foreign countries and are part of a multicultural community at their school." Astrid continues:
In our office they see diversity and realise that the person on the chair being a Cost Manager, Project Manager or even a Country Manager, could be them in a couple of years.
Turner & Townsend has started working with JINC in 2014 and organised a range of activities: the annual Tomorrow’s CEO (Baas van morgen) initiative, two employability workshops at the Reigerbos Highschool, career coach volunteering as well as several flash internships and mini-interview training in the Amsterdam office.
Country Manager Luke Bartolo commented: "We’re very proud of all our employees who contributed to this award! Our staff has happily given their time to 440 children from all over Amsterdam to provide them with the knowledge, skills and understanding to succeed in the job market. We're also excited to continue our working cooperation with JINC for the fifth consecutive year!"
A big thank you goes also to Marlotte Ruikes and Quinta van Vliet who run the practical organisation of the flash internships throughout the year and handle all communication with JINC.
