Delivering a learning legacy with Crossrail

Crossrail is a highly complex major infrastructure programme delivering a new railway, to be known as the Elizabeth Line, underneath London. Construction incorporates ten new stations as well as 42km of new bored tunnels and the programme possesses immense potential to raise standards across industry.

We have been working as part of Crossrail’s Programme Partner since 2009 and are now supporting Crossrail’s Learning Legacy initiative. The Learning Legacy programme is designed to share lessons learned on a wide range of challenges, including sponsorship and delivery models, supply chain management, procurement strategies and assurance, to enable effective decision-making on future programmes of a similar scope and scale.

Richard Wood, Director at Turner & Townsend spoke about the importance of transparency: “We’ve been completely open about what went well, what we consider best practice and our learnings about what could be done differently to achieve even better results.

“It is vital we share this knowledge to drive consistently better outcomes, play our part in growing the reputation of our industry, and improve confidence in the UK’s ability to deliver essential infrastructure.

“We project managed the completion of programme controls content, and contributed to various papers and webinars with professional bodies. We also formed part of the Learning Legacy steering groups, helping to set-up and implement the programme.”

The aim now is to raise the profile of this valuable resource and disseminate content to our clients and partners. Our people are taking on the role of Crossrail Learning Legacy ambassadors, leading communications and events to engage people worldwide.
