Smart Choice > Innovation

At Turner & Townsend, innovation isn’t just a word, it’s a deliverable. We’re committed to the development of innovative solutions which make your projects more efficient, timely, and cost-effective.

One of our most recent innovations has been working with software company Exactal in supporting the development of CostX – an industry-first costing software application. This means we’re now able to offer a revolutionary new costing service called CostCAD.

The CostCAD Service
CostCAD is an exciting new service, which gives you real-time, accurate, progressive costings based on CAD drawing updates.

We create a permanent two way link between our cost-planning database and your CAD drawing. This enables direct interrogation of the drawing, so you can extract core data (e.g. quantity of materials). In practise, this means you can perform real-time cost checks, and so help to eliminate ‘scope creep’. If the drawing changes, the differences are automatically highlighted and the cost plan is automatically updated.

As the link is permanent, CostCAD can be used throughout the asset’s entire life. Any changes to the asset can be updated in the asset register with the CAD design drawing, and the supporting documentation is permanently linked to visually reflect the changes.

Bottom Line Savings
The benefits of the CostCAD service include:

  • Scope is better managed by faster cost response to design changes.
  • You can have real-time cost planning on your project (rather than traditional milestone estimates).
  • We can directly extract dimensions and data from CAD files improving accuracy.
  • CostCAD relates to, and works seamlessly with, existing industry tools.
  • CostCAD reduces report response time so you can meet your project timeframes.
  • CostCAD provides a comprehensive audit trail showing the cost of each drawing update.
  • Detailed specified cost plans with a graphical interface - more easily understood by all stakeholders and designers.
  • Cost planners can talk to the design team in their own language.
  • Drawing changes can be assessed graphically on-screen together with direct impact of the changes on the cost budget, tender price, or contract sum.
  • The Cost Plans and the base drawings can be accessed remotely, facilitating expert peer and management review.
