Expansion in South America

Turner and Townsend’s South American operation based in Santiago, Chile, has proved to be a resounding success since its inception in January 2010 with the bulk of the work coming from the region’s mining industry.
In six months the operation has secured work with leading global and local companies whilst promoting its brand through an extensive business development programme.
Much of the work has revolved around procurement and contracting strategies as organisations such as Anglo American and others continue to engage with the contracting industry to meet their extensive capital programme needs.
In addition, Turner & Townsend has been commissioned to assist with cost and project control on ongoing programmes in Chile and Brazil. Work is underway in Chile with one of the world’s largest copper producers, to design and pilot a best practice procurement process.
Mark Wainwright, Turner & Townsend’s global head of mining and metals, says, “With subsidiaries in Brazil and Peru, we will shortly be assisting our other South American clients with project process control programmes, whilst starting to penetrate the Peruvian and Brazilian markets in earnest.
“Turner & Townsend‘s prospects in the area look very promising. We will be formally launching our South American operations in September with a celebratory event for our clients, and partners.”
