This year, Turner & Townsend’s Head Office team in Leeds participated in National Bike Week from 19 June to 27 June 2010, as part of the company’s commitment to CSR.
National Bike Week is the biggest cycling event in the UK aimed at promoting the social, health and environmental benefits of cycling.
This year fourteen staff members swapped their cars for bicycles on at least one return journey during the week.
Turner & Townsend’s staff are lucky enough to be able to take advantage of the Leeds office’s location in Horsforth with many of the cyclists using the traffic-free canal towpaths to travel to work.
When the Leeds office was extended and refurbished in 2008, Turner & Townsend installed a shower to enable cyclists to freshen up once they arrive into the office.
In 2010 cycling has risen in popularity in the Leeds office with almost ten percent of staff regularly cycling to work compared with only a couple of cyclists in previous summers.
Leeds Director and enthusiastic cyclist, Clive Porter commented:
“Promoting Leeds Bike Week is a way of encouraging our people to rethink their everyday journeys to and from work. Our staff have enjoyed switching to cycling especially in the warm weather, as it’s a convenient and green way of getting around. It’s also good for our health, wellbeing and our pockets.”
