Bringing Paradise to Birmingham

Turner & Townsend has been appointed by Birmingham City Council to provide business case development and project management support on the scheme to revitalise Paradise Circus in Birmingham City Centre. 

Birmingham City Council are working in partnership with nationally renowned developer Argent, to make strategic use of the significant land holdings both parties have in the site. 

Subject to approval, the £500m scheme will be the largest piece of regeneration in Birmingham City Centre since the £750m Birmingham New Street Gateway project, a project on which Turner & Townsend are also heavily involved.

The site covers eight acres of prime city centre land and according to Argent, "Paradise Circus is the most strategically important piece of land in need of regeneration within Birmingham’s central core. There is no other eight acre site in the UK which demonstrates so glaringly the urban design conflicts created in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s."

The proposed development will include office, retail and hotel space based around a collection of new streets and squares.  The development will improve pedestrian links, create quality public realm suitable for historical buildings, open up the views of historic buildings and provide a safe, sustainable mixed use development.  The development will create between 1.5 million and 2 million square feet floor space.
