Corporate Challenge run for charity

Date: 03 May 2012

On April 19th members of the Singapore office took part in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge for the second year in a row, hoping this will become an annual event. Eight Turner & Townsend employees joined 14,555 entrants from 377 companies in the 5.6km (3.5 mile) run.

Starting at the Esplanade Bridge, the race was flagged off by J.P. Morgan CEO Philip Lee and Guest of Honor, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources. The runners raced down the bay area of the Marina, taking a scenic tour before reaching the finish line at the F1 Pit Building.

The Singapore race was the fourth largest single night race in the 13-city JPMorgan Chase & Co. Corporate Challenge Series. The total participation for this year's race was 248,168 entrants from 8,173 companies, breaking the record for the Corporate Challenge Series participation record of 242,326 set in 2008.

Proceeds from the race are donated to the Asian branch of Operation Smile and MILK (Mainly I Love Kids) Fund. The Turner & Townsend Singapore office raised addition funds through office dress down days in order to give additional support to these charities.

Operation Smile is an international children’s medical charity committed to saving lives and healing smiles of children that have been born with facial deformities. They have a presence in more than 60 countries, providing safe free surgeries for children and young adults ensuring health and confidence.

MILK’s aim is to reach out to disadvantages children and youth, both in Singapore and overseas, helping them to reach their full potential and be productive members of society. Offering these children support through education, care and guidance, vocational and livelihood development, and any other circumstances or support each individual needs. They look to address the gaps that exist in the public service sector rather than duplicating services.
