Communities & Local Government

Department for Communities and Local Government

Client’s Requirements

The client has embarked upon an ambitious project to provide flexible desking for most of their staff in central London. The main aims of the project are to;

Rationalise the space so staff may work in one building

Provide flexible desking conditions to allow formal and informal teams to form

To produce a space that encourages creative thinking processes

Turner & Townsend Contribution

Turner & Townsend was commissioned to complete an Equalities Impact Assessment (EqIA) on the flexible working project.

  • We analysed the changes and additions to client policies and highlighted areas which may disenfranchise certain groups.
  • Each minorities group was consulted to highlight any concerns or issues concerning the working change.
  • The local authority unions were consulted at each stage and any issues or challenges addressed.

A full report was produced highlighting issues which would affect minority groups and proactively recommending ways that the policies could be changed to eliminate or reduce the impact, stimulating a positive change

Making the difference

Our approach by consulting minority groups and unions enabled their concerns to be addressed proactively. This provided the client with the opportunity to adjust and re-consult where necessary to allow a first-time-right approach to the project.
